What it is
Staff of the security forces (Hellenic Police, Fire Service, Hellenic Coast Guard) receive a monthly border-area allowance of €130, from 1 October 2025 (Law 5246/2025, article 24).
Who: - those serving in the North Aegean Region, the Evros regional unit and the Dodecanese; - coast guard staff serving at the port authorities of Maroneia and Fanari (Rhodope regional unit), Porto Lagos, Othonoi, Sagiada and Skyros; - police officers serving in one of the 56 services along the mainland border set by the decision of the Chief of the Hellenic Police (Government Gazette B 3548/2026), in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Central and Western Macedonia and Epirus: e.g. the police stations of Iasmos, Echinos, Kato Nevrokopi and Filiates, border-guard units and the passport-control units of Kakavia and Sagiada; - firefighters serving in one of the 37 services along the mainland border set by the decision of the Chief of the Fire Service (Government Gazette B 4018/2026): e.g. the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace regional fire command, the fire directorates of Drama, Thesprotia, Kastoria, Kilkis, Xanthi, Rodopi and Florina, and fire services and units such as Konitsa, Filiates and Prespes.
The allowance is paid for full and exclusive service there and stops on transfer, secondment or any other move away from the area. It is paid with the salary; there is no application.
