What it is
Unemployed/sick seafarers insured with NAT (Seamen's Pension Fund)
The Seafarers' Unemployment and Sickness Fund (ΚΑΑΝ) is run by the Seamen's Home (Οίκος Ναύτου). Sickness allowance (2024): €490 a month for married seafarers or seafarers with protected children and €410 a month for unmarried seafarers without children, for seafarers who became unfit for work because of illness. The Seamen's Home also pays a maternity allowance to seafarers (article 19 of Presidential Decree 894/1981) and an unemployment allowance (Presidential Decree 228/1998).
