Child benefit A21 calculator
Enter the total family income and the number of children. The calculator finds the equivalent income, the band and the amount per month and per two-month instalment, with the rules of article 214 of law 4512/2018.
Calculate the amount
How the calculation works
- Equivalence scale: first parent 1, second parent 1/2, each dependent child 1/4. In a single-parent family the first child counts 1/2 and each further child 1/4.
- Equivalent family income = total family income ÷ equivalence scale. It counts the total income of all family members, actual or deemed, from Greece and abroad, before tax and after social insurance contributions, leaving out allowances that do not count towards taxable income.
- Band: A up to 6,000 EUR, B from 6,001 to 10,000 EUR, C from 10,001 to 15,000 EUR. Above 15,000 EUR of equivalent income there is no benefit.
- Monthly amount: the band's base amount for the 1st and the 2nd child, double for the 3rd and every further child. Paid every two months, in 6 instalments a year, on the last working day of the payment month.
| Equivalent income | 1st child | 2nd child | 3rd and each further |
|---|---|---|---|
| A: up to 6,000 EUR | €70 | €70 | €140 |
| B: 6,001 to 10,000 EUR | €42 | €42 | €84 |
| C: 10,001 to 15,000 EUR | €28 | €28 | €56 |
What this calculator does not check
- The benefit's other conditions, such as legal and permanent residence in Greece and which child counts as dependent. You will find them on the benefit page.
- The children's attendance in compulsory education (pre-school to lower secondary school) and sufficient attendance, which OPEKA lists among the 2026 conditions.
- Which income counts: the calculator uses the amount you enter as it is.
- Asset criteria (property, savings): we found no such limit in the official texts we checked, so the calculator does not check assets.
- The amount you will actually be paid: OPEKA sets it after the A21 application (the platform shows it once you submit).
Points awaiting legal review
On these points the official texts give no clear answer. The calculator makes the choice described, until the legal review.
- The law writes the limits in whole euro (up to 6,000, from 6,001). For an equivalent income in between, e.g. 6,000.50 EUR, the calculator uses the next band.
- Asset limits: none in the official texts we checked. A news report claims otherwise, without an official source.
Frequently asked questions
What is the equivalent family income?
The total family income divided by the equivalence scale (1 for the first parent, 1/2 for the second, 1/4 for each child, 1/2 for the first child of a single-parent family). Two parents with two children have a scale of 2, so a family income of 18,800 EUR gives an equivalent income of 9,400 EUR.
How much is the A21 child benefit per month?
For the 1st and the 2nd child 70 EUR in band A, 42 EUR in band B and 28 EUR in band C. For the 3rd and every further child double: 140, 84 or 56 EUR.
Which income counts for 2026?
For 2026 applications OPEKA calculates the amount with the family income of tax year 2024. Once this year's tax return is filed, it takes the 2025 income into account.
How often is it paid?
Every two months, in 6 instalments a year, on the last working day of the payment month. Each instalment is twice the monthly amount.
An example from OPEKA?
A single-parent family with one child and an income of 9,000 EUR: scale 1.5, equivalent income 6,000 EUR, band A, 70 EUR a month.
