You belong to one of the groups whose municipal charges your municipality waives or reduces (people with disabilities, single-parent families, families with three children, large families, people on low incomes, the long-term unemployed, Minimum Guaranteed Income recipients) and you meet the income limit your municipality sets.
A reduction of, or full exemption from, the municipal cleaning and lighting charges, as your municipality decides. The Municipalities of Athens, Hydra, Keratsini-Drapetsona and Sitia have their own entries with their exact limits.

What it is
The law (Article 525(6) of Law 5314/2026, the Local Government Code, in force since 29/06/2026, which replaced the repealed Article 202(3) of Law 3463/2006) allows each municipality, by a decision of its municipal council taken by an absolute majority of its members, to reduce or waive municipal charges for people on low incomes, people with disabilities, large families, families with three children, single-parent families, the long-term unemployed and Minimum Guaranteed Income recipients, and to set income criteria. For people with disabilities, where an income limit is set, only taxable income counts. Each municipality decides which groups it covers, at what rate and with what income limits, and the decision is usually renewed every year. Ask your municipality (Revenue Department or Social Service) for its exact limits. The Municipalities of Athens, Hydra, Keratsini-Drapetsona, Sitia and Marathon have their own entries with their exact limits. Application period: annual cycle (you usually apply before the first electricity bill of the year is issued).
