Academic Teaching Experience for New PhD Holders (2026-2027)
Paid independent-teaching posts at universities for young scientists who obtained their PhD after 1/1/2016. Each department issues its own call; the 2026-2027 calls had deadlines up to 24/10/2026 and have closed.
Monthly pay: 80% of the basic salary of an Assistant Professor (salary step 1) plus 80% of the special teaching and research allowance of that rank

The programme page on espa.gr lists the posts and deadlines per university and department. Also check the websites of the institutions you are interested in.
Open the page - 2
Submit a contract proposal to the department
The proposal is submitted for the post and field of the call, with the documents and within the deadline set by the department's call.

- Sign in to gov.gr with your TAXISnet codes. You sign in ONLY through the official government page. Never enter your codes anywhere else.
- Fill in and submit the application. Enter your details, upload anything requested and submit. Keep the protocol number.
- Track your application. Progress and the final decision appear in your account on the authority / gov.gr.

What it is
The ESPA programme «Academic teaching experience for young scientists holding a PhD» lets new PhD holders teach undergraduate courses independently at Greek universities, as assigned lecturers on a contract for services. The participating universities issue calls for expressions of interest per department, for a set number of posts and a scientific field.
You can apply if you obtained your PhD in the last ten years (defence after 1/1/2016), with the thesis deposited in the National Archive of PhD Theses where required, and you have taught independently at a university, after the PhD, for up to five academic semesters in total. Not eligible: faculty members (ΔΕΠ), ΕΕΠ, ΕΔΙΠ, ΕΤΕΠ and Hellenic Open University tutors (ΣΕΠ), researchers of research bodies, emeritus and retired professors, pensioners, people over their 67th year of age and people with another assigned-lecturer contract for 2026-2027. Civil servants and members of the armed and security forces may only apply for a part-time post.
The monthly pay is 80% of the basic salary of salary step 1 of an Assistant Professor plus 80% of the special teaching and research allowance of that rank (article 173(5) of Law 4957/2022). Deadlines differed per department; for 2026-2027 they closed by 24/10/2026. The programme page on espa.gr shows the department calls.
