What it is
An employee who responds to an emergency call from a blood service, takes part in an organised blood drive, or goes to any blood-collection centre on their own initiative is entitled to special fully paid leave for the day of the donation only; the same applies to platelet donation. It can be used up to twice a year. The employer must be told at least 5 working days in advance, except in emergencies, and given a certificate from the hospital where the donation took place. Public servants have their own, different blood-donation leave (Law 3528/2007).
