When the Gymnasio or Lykeio head announces the programme, the parent/guardian (or the adult pupil for Special-Subjects coaching, EDEM, Ε.Δ.Ε.Μ.) submits a participation form at the school.

What it is
Each school year the Ministry of Education runs free out-of-hours remedial teaching through the School Compensatory Education Centres (SKAE, Σ.Κ.Α.Ε.) of the Secondary Education Directorates: - Gymnasio (all years): Modern Greek, Ancient Greek, Maths, Physics, Chemistry and English, for pupils who are behind or want to improve. Selection is based on the pupil's performance in the subject; the teachers' council proposes the pupils. - Special-Subjects coaching (EDEM, Ε.Δ.Ε.Μ.) for Panhellenic-exam candidates (final year of general/vocational/special-education Lykeio, 4th year of evening Lykeio): freehand and linear drawing, French, German, Italian, Spanish and music theory, 2 hours a week per subject (3 hours for drawing).
The parent/guardian (or the adult pupil for EDEM) applies at the school when the head teacher announces the programme. Classes run where enough applications are gathered. For the 2026-2027 school year the ministerial operating decisions have been issued (Government Gazette B 5774/24.09.2026 for EDEM and B 5847/29.09.2026 for Gymnasio), with the same subjects. Lessons start with the Ministry of Education's start circular, which has not been issued yet. For 2025-2026, 799 teachers and 410 centre coordinators had been assigned.
