Meal Allowance for Merchant Marine Academy (AEN) Students

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy grants a meal allowance every year to mixed-attendance students of the Merchant Marine Academies (AEN). For the 2025-2026 academic year the allowance is €600 per student (€300 per semester of study) and is limited to €300 in years that include a training voyage. The budget is €1,600,000.

Requirements: you must be a mixed-attendance student and have passed half of the courses of the previous year or of the corresponding two semesters (in the 1st year the certificate of enrolment is enough). If you are a dependent child, the family income together with your own must not exceed €30,000, increased by €3,000 for each dependent child beyond the first. If you are not a dependent child, only your own income counts, up to €18,000. Not eligible: students repeating the year because of courses or absences, students exceptionally enrolled for a third time, and students who have exceeded four years of study (except in the case of suspension of studies).

The application – solemn declaration (υπεύθυνη δήλωση) is submitted with the supporting documents to the Student Welfare Office of the AEN where you are enrolled, within three months of the publication of the Joint Ministerial Decision (JMD) (31.07.2026); students doing their training on board ship during that period have six months. Support for the AEN from ESPA (EU structural funds) is a separate programme.
