What it is

The Ministry of Education reimburses the purchase of hearing aids for pupils with hearing loss who attend public primary or secondary schools, up to age 20. The reimbursement is up to €1,500 per hearing aid and is paid after the pupil's insurer (e.g. EOPYY) has paid: it covers an additional amount and does not replace the insurer's benefit. A medical opinion from a relevant specialist with an audiogram is required, and at least 4 years must have passed since the previous hearing-aid reimbursement. Uninsured pupils have the rights of article 33 of law 4368/2016. The parent or guardian files the application in person at the school's Directorate of Primary or Secondary Education, with a solemn declaration of when the last reimbursement was paid. The procedure takes about 3 months and the amount is paid into a bank account.
