Social Tutoring Programmes of Municipalities and Regions (free lessons for pupils)

A Social Tutoring programme is supplementary teaching for pupils run by a municipality or a region, often together with the local association of tutoring schools or with volunteer teachers. Each body decides which school years it takes, whether there is a financial criterion and when to apply (once a year). Confirmed programmes: (1) Thesprotia: the Welfare Directorate of the Municipality of Igoumenitsa, with the prefecture's associations of secondary-education tutors and of foreign-language schools, offers free tutoring to pupils of public schools in the prefecture from low-income families who do not already attend a tutoring school; a committee selects on financial and social criteria. 2026-2027 cycle: documents were submitted on 5-9/10/2026 at the Welfare Directorate of the Municipality of Igoumenitsa (Agion Apostolon 43, Neo Limani). (2) Municipality of Salamina: the Salamina Social Tutoring Centre takes lower- and upper-secondary pupils permanently resident in Salamina; it asks for the tax assessment notice and E9 and, where available, an unemployment card or other documents showing the family's financial hardship. Applications for 2026-2027 closed on 31/08/2026. (3) Municipality of Elliniko-Argyroupoli: free lessons by volunteer teachers for pupils in years 1-3 of Gymnasio and years 1-2 of Lykeio who live in the municipality, with no financial criterion; year 3 of Lykeio will be considered if there are enough volunteers and interest. Lessons for 2026-2027 start 28/9-5/10/2026 at the 3rd General Lyceum of Argyroupoli; the application goes to the municipality's Education Department (also by email) or to the municipality's secondary schools. (4) Municipality of Notia Kynouria: free supplementary teaching by volunteer teachers and students for primary, lower- and upper-secondary pupils who are registered citizens of the municipality, in Leonidio and Tyros, with no financial criterion. It continues in 2026-2027; pupil enrolment dates have not been announced (information on 2757180026). (5) Municipality of Trikala: with the Trikala association of tutors, free lessons for poor or low-income pupils of general Lykeio and vocational EPAL schools in Trikala and the municipality's villages; families with income up to €14,000 can apply. Last cycle: 2025-2026 (applications 14/07-22/08/2025); no call has been found yet for 2026-2027. Other municipalities and regions also run a Social Tutoring programme; if you live elsewhere, ask your municipality's Education Department or Social Service.
