How to apply
The steps to apply yourself. Free: you don’t need to pay anyone.
Required Documents
Usually the details gov.gr already holds about you are enough.
Step by step
- 1
Check if you are eligible
The scheme is run by the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy. Beneficiaries are households permanently resident on a Greek island, except Crete, Evia and Lefkada, as well as people working temporarily on an eligible island, for the duration of their contract.
- 2
No supporting documents are needed
You do not submit any certificates. Your details are pulled automatically from AADE (the tax authority), based on the previous year's tax return — so make sure you have filed your return as usual.
- 3
Register on the metaforikoisodynamo.gr platform
Log in to metaforikoisodynamo.gr with your Taxisnet credentials. The application is submitted by the household member who files the tax return, entering the IBAN and contact details. The online submission takes a few minutes.
Open the page - 4
Receive your Unique Islander Number (MAN)
If the application is approved, each member of the household gets their own MAN number, and you are told the maximum number of tickets that are covered.
- 5
Provide your MAN number when you buy a ticket
Every time you buy a ferry ticket, provide your MAN number. The Island Cost Compensation (ANIKO) — the difference between the fare and the cost of an equivalent land journey — is credited to the IBAN you registered, for the tickets that are covered.
- 6
Update your details when they change
If your address, IBAN or household composition changes, submit a beneficiary-details update on the same platform, so your coverage is not interrupted.

What it is
A subsidy on the cost of ferry tickets for permanent residents of islands, through the Island Cost Compensation (ANIKO, ΑΝΗΚΟ). Beneficiaries are certified and get a Unique Islander Number (MAN, ΜΑΝ), which they give when the ticket is issued so that the difference in transport cost is refunded to them. The measure applies to all islands except Crete, Evia and Lefkada (Skyros, Meganisi and Gavdos, for example, are covered). The Island Cost Compensation is the difference between the real cost of the ticket and the cost of the same distance on the mainland. The competent body is the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy (General Secretariat for the Aegean and Island Policy). Registration and applications at metaforikoisodynamo.gr.
