Remote/Border Area Allowance for Public Employees
Permanent/contract civil servants, teachers, doctors and nurses in Xanthi, Rodopi, Evros, the North Aegean, the Dodecanese, a 20 km zone from the borders with Albania/North Macedonia/Bulgaria, and mountainous/island/disadvantaged areas. Uniformed staff (police, coast guard, firefighters and career military) are on a different pay scale and do not receive this allowance; firefighters and career military have their own border-area allowance.
€100 gross/month (scheme under Law 4024/2011, Joint Ministerial Decision, Government Gazette (FEK) B' 2745/3-6-2025); the 2026 State Budget announced an increase to up to €250/month for teachers, doctors, nurses and uniformed staff on islands/in mountainous areas
