What it is

The war pension is a monthly, lifelong, honorary and personal pension (War Pensions Code, Presidential Decree 168/2007). It is awarded by the Ministry of National Economy and Finance (Income Policy Directorate), not by e-EFKA.

Who is entitled: 1. military personnel wounded or taken ill in war or mobilisation (1912-1923 and 28.10.1940-31.12.1950), and the families of those killed, missing or who died as a result; 2. civilians used by the Military Authority, the Gendarmerie or the City Police in 15.08.1945-31.12.1950 who became disabled; 3. civil servants and elected officials disabled by war events; 4. Greek civilians aged 14 or over who were wounded on or after 28.10.1940; 5. people harmed in the civil conflicts of 1944-1949; 6. military personnel of the units that served in Korea; 7. families of those sent from the Middle East on special missions during the Occupation and executed; 8. National Resistance fighters; 9. military personnel disabled in combat while serving in Cyprus; 10. fighters against the Dictatorship; 11. uninsured Greek citizens left fully unable to work by a terrorist act.

Conditions: a lasting loss of working capacity of at least 10% for war invalids and 25% for the others, caused by the war, the National Resistance or the other events of the Code. The percentage is set by the Supreme Health Committee. From 1/1/2026, unmarried children who receive the pension by transfer after a parent's death receive it until they turn 24 (art. 43, Law 5313/2026).

Application: to the Income Policy Directorate or to the Regional Unit. National Resistance fighters, people harmed in the Civil War and fighters against the Dictatorship apply to the Regional Unit where they were active or lived at the time. The procedure is free and takes about 1 month. If the application is rejected, you can ask the Income Policy Directorate to review it or appeal to the Court of Audit.
