To OPEKA's department for uninsured elderly benefits or one of its regional offices, in person or by post, within two years of the death. There is no fee.

What it is
When an uninsured elderly pensioner under Law 1296/1982 (the old OGA scheme, now paid by OPEKA) dies, OPEKA pays the funeral expenses to the person who arranged the funeral. The amount on the original funeral-home receipt is paid, up to €800. You apply to OPEKA in person or by post, and the claim lapses two years after the death.
Note: this payment concerns the death of a pensioner under Law 1296/1982. The law does not provide it for people who received the newer Social Solidarity Allowance for Uninsured Elderly Persons of Article 93 of Law 4387/2016. For the death of an e-EFKA insured person or pensioner, the separate e-EFKA Funeral Expenses Allowance applies.
