What it is
The children (biological, legitimised, acknowledged, adopted or equivalent) of a deceased parent who was a pensioner, or was insured long enough for an old-age or disability pension, are entitled.
Conditions: they must be unmarried and not in a civil partnership (divorced children count as unmarried if they have not remarried) and must not have turned 24. The pension continues for life if the child became unable to do any gainful work before 24. For deaths from 13 May 2016 the child's work does not affect the pension; for earlier deaths it is suspended while the child works.
Amount: the children's shares cannot exceed 30% of the pension the deceased parent received or was entitled to.
Higher pension for children who lost both parents and have a severe disability: children who lost both parents and have a severe disability (intellectual disability, autism, multiple severe disabilities or chronic mental disorders) of 67% or more, which began before 24, get 100% of the higher parental pension plus 50% of the other parent's pension if they are entitled from both. They must be unmarried, not insured with e-EFKA (with exceptions for psychosocial rehabilitation) and without a pension of their own. If there are several children, a sharing rule applies.
From the September 2026 pensions (Law 5322/2026, article 91(3)): a child who has lost both parents and receives a survivor's pension from each parent gets one national pension for each parent.
