Register the death at the civil registry
The death certificate must have been registered and be available electronically.

Pay the funeral invoice
The legal invoice/receipt must have been issued in the name of the person who arranged the funeral. From 6/10/2026 the funeral home's receipt for services must carry the AADE Unique Registration Number (MARK).

Check the former insurance fund
The amount and any additional conditions depend on the fund of the deceased.

Submit the online application
Log in with Taxisnet, declare your IBAN and check the pre-filled details. From 6/10/2026 the application is made in e-EFKA's upgraded "Funeral Expenses" online service.

What it is
e-EFKA (Electronic National Social Security Fund) reimburses funeral expenses to the eligible person who arranged the funeral, provided the deceased was an insured person or pensioner and the specific conditions of the former fund are met. There is no single amount of €1,000: for example, the official table lists €883.92 for IKA-ETAM, €1,200 for directly insured OAEE members, €762 for OAEE pensioners, €800 for OGA and €1,000 for OPAD, with different amounts in other sectors.
From 6 October 2026 the application is made in the upgraded "Funeral Expenses" online service of e-EFKA's new information system. The funeral home's receipt for services must be submitted with the AADE Unique Registration Number (MARK), and the funeral home's details are cross-checked electronically with the General Commercial Registry (GEMI).
