What it is

All domestic ferries, conventional and high-speed, must give fare discounts to certain groups of passengers as a public-service obligation; the state compensates the companies for them. The groups are: - destitute people, with a certificate from the competent authority: free, economy class, up to 10 people per ship and route; - children up to 5: free (one berth per two children); - war-disabled people, war victims and the helpers or companions of war-disabled people: 50%, with a berth in the class they choose, if it has berths; - people with a disability or reduced mobility of 80% or more: 50% in all classes; a companion also gets 50% when the beneficiary has paraplegia or tetraplegia, blindness, an intellectual disability, autism or Down syndrome, and travels free if the company requires an escort; - large families: 50%, economy class; - university students (universities and former technological institutes) and students of the merchant marine academies and KESEN: 50%, economy class, all year round; - disability-adapted private cars accompanied by the beneficiary: 50%.

You ask for the discount when the ticket is issued, with proof of your category. Each passenger gets only one discount, even if they belong to more than one category. The discounts do not apply on high-speed vessels on Friday, Saturday and Sunday when the same route that day is also served by a conventional ship.
