What it is

The compensatory payment offsets the extra cost and lost income of farming in areas with natural or other specific constraints.

Who: adult active farmers and livestock breeders who have not left active employment (up to 67: no pension, with exceptions; over 67: still paying contributions), with farmland in mountain areas, areas with natural constraints or areas with specific constraints (border, island, lignite). What counts is where the land is, not where you live.

How much: €122.20 per hectare in mountain areas and €89.90 per hectare elsewhere. The full rate is paid up to 20 hectares, 80% for hectares 20 to 25, 50% from 25 to 30, and nothing beyond 30.

How to claim: every year with the Single Aid Application. For 2026 the application is filed on AADE's myAGRO platform by 16 October 2026.
