Suspension of Tax and Social Security Debt Payments for People Hit by a Natural Disaster
After a natural disaster, people certified as having damage to their home get a six-month suspension of tax debt payments, an arrangement and suspension of social security contributions, and a twelve-month suspension of forced enforcement.

What it is
For each major natural disaster, the Government Committee for State Aid and a joint decision of the competent deputy ministers and AADE suspend for about six months the payment of tax debts (assessed and overdue on the date of the disaster) for individuals certified as having damage to their home and included in the housing-assistance and household-contents compensation scheme. For social security contributions, an arrangement and a six-month suspension are provided. In addition, any act of forced enforcement on the movable or immovable property of those affected (auctions, seizures) is suspended for twelve months, except for maintenance claims.
No application is needed: the beneficiaries' details are sent to AADE by the General Secretariat for Natural Disaster Recovery and State Aid. The exact end date of the suspension is set in the decision for each disaster (e.g. for the 2025 Attica fires, until 9/2/2026).
