How to apply
The steps to apply yourself. Free: you don’t need to pay anyone.
Required Documents
Usually the details gov.gr already holds about you are enough.
Step by step
- 1
Check if your area has been declared disaster-hit
Relief is only activated once a Joint Ministerial Decision (KYA) formally designates your area as hit by the specific fire. Check the announcements on arogi.gov.gr, under "Natural disasters > Wildfires", or ask at your Municipality.
Open the page - 2
Report your damage
If no inspection has taken place yet, report the damage so one can be scheduled. Buildings are inspected by GDAEFK engineers, while damage to crops or livestock is reported to ELGA. Your Municipality can point you to the right service.
- 3
Submit your application on the right platform
arogi.gov.gr is an information portal and has no login. The first-relief application is submitted in the tax authority's "State Aid" application using TaxisNet credentials, while temporary housing subsidy and repair permits are submitted on arogi.services.gov.gr. Select your status and declare your IBAN.
Open the page - 4
Wait for review and payment
The application is cross-checked with the inspection report and your tax records. First relief for immediate needs is usually processed faster than the main relief, which requires a full damage assessment.
- 5
Watch the deadline
Each decision sets its own submission deadline. Apply as soon as the platform opens and keep a copy of every inspection document you receive.
- 6
Application at the municipality (JMD 33862/2019)
If the tax authority platform does not open for the wildfire and the municipality applies Joint Ministerial Decision 33862/2019, the application for the first basic-needs allowance and the simple-repairs or household-goods allowance is made at the municipality within 45 days of the disaster. A three-member municipal committee inspects the main or second home (not if GDAEFK engineers have already inspected it) and the mayor recognises the beneficiaries by decision. Even when relief is paid via arogi.gov.gr, the large-family and disability supplements and the €4,500 injury-disability aid are paid in cooperation with the municipalities.

What it is
State aid (arogi) for wildfire victims is granted to natural and legal persons affected by a wildfire, under Law 4797/2021 (articles 24A-24B), as in force. It is activated for each disaster event and covers the areas, properties and activities designated in the relevant decisions: for each wildfire, a Joint Ministerial Decision (JMD) is issued designating the affected area, and a separate JMD sets the amount of aid, capped at 80% of the property's value as assessed for ENFIA (Single Property Ownership Tax). The main forms of aid are: first aid for basic living needs, first aid as an advance on the grant for replacing household goods (based on the degree of damage), first aid as an advance on housing assistance (based on how the building is classified), and aid for businesses and farms; a secondary home receives 50% of the amount for a main home. Beneficiaries are owners, usufructuaries or tenants of the affected property — not only owners. First-aid amounts, documents and deadlines differ for each event and are announced with the call for each wildfire. When the wildfire is included in state aid through arogi.gov.gr, the aid paid there is tax-free, cannot be transferred and cannot be seized (article 6 of Law 4797/2021), and in cooperation with the municipalities only the increases for large families and persons with disabilities, and the €4,500 for a disability of 67% or more caused by injury (JMD 33862/2019), are paid. When it is not included, the municipality where the home is located itself grants, with state funding, the basic living needs allowance (€600) and the allowance for simple repairs or replacement of household goods (up to €6,000, 50% for a secondary home) under JMD 33862/2019, as amended by JMD 31 EX/2023 (ΚΥΑ 31 ΕΞ/2023): you apply to the municipality within 45 days, a three-member committee of the municipality inspects the home (or a report from the GDAEFK, General Directorate for Natural Disaster Recovery, is used), and the Mayor issues a decision. See 'Basic-Needs and Household-Goods Aid for Natural Disaster Victims (applied for at the Municipality)'.
