What it is
DEYA Heraklion (the municipal water company) applies two social water tariffs.
1. A Special Social tariff for registered citizens who receive the Guaranteed Minimum Income (GMI), valid until 31/12/2028:
- The first 25 m³ of each quarter cost €1 + VAT in total, with no fixed charge and no sewerage fees.
- Above 25 m³, water is charged at the normal bands reduced by 50%.
Conditions: you are a registered citizen of Heraklion, you receive the Guaranteed Minimum Income (the OPEKA decision is needed), the water meter is in your name as owner or tenant, and you apply to DEYA with the documents. People who were already included under earlier decisions do not need to apply again; DEYA checks that the conditions still apply and may ask for new documents.
2. A household tariff reduced by 40% for large families, three-child families and people with disabilities. DEYA Heraklion's new tariff policy for 2025-2029 keeps the 40% reduction. The normal household bands for 2026 are €0.15/m³ (0-36 m³), €1.20 (37-72 m³), €1.60 (73-100 m³), €2.20 (101-140 m³), €2.70 (141-220 m³), €3.20 (221-300 m³), €3.80 (301-500 m³) and €5.50 (above 500 m³), settled every six months. The decision states no income criteria and no minimum disability percentage; ask DEYA Heraklion which documents you need (e.g. a large-family or family-status certificate, a KEPA disability assessment).
