Check the income, property and residence criteria
Your household's total income must not exceed 7,000 EUR for a one-person household, plus 3,500 EUR for each extra member, up to a maximum of 21,000 EUR. The taxable value of your real estate must not exceed 120,000 EUR, plus 15,000 EUR per extra member and up to 180,000 EUR, and there is also a limit on deposits and securities. You must also have lived legally and permanently in Greece for the last 5 years (Greek and EU citizens) or the last 12 years (third-country nationals).

Make sure you have a valid electronic lease
You need a lease declared electronically with AADE, valid on the day you apply and for as long as you receive the benefit. You also need an electricity contract in your name or that of a household member, the tax return of every adult household member, and an IBAN for an account you hold.

Submit the application
You can apply online yourself with your TaxisNet credentials, or in person at your municipality or local Community Centre — this is compulsory for single-parent families and households with unprotected children. All adult household members must consent; for in-person applications this is done with a solemn declaration bearing a certified signature.

Know when payment starts
If your application is approved, entitlement to payment starts on the 1st day of the month after you applied, and the benefit is paid monthly into your bank account.

Renew every 6 months
The benefit is granted for six months and is not renewed automatically. Before that period ends, submit a new application so you keep receiving it, and make sure your lease is still valid.

What it is
The Housing Allowance is a welfare programme that subsidises rent for households that rent their main residence. It does not cover mortgage instalments: the subsidy for first-home loans belongs to the separate Interim State Support Programme for the first home of vulnerable households. The amount is set at €70 a month for the beneficiary, plus €35 for each additional household member. In a single-parent family the increase for the first minor member is €70, as it is for each unprotected child. Maximum: €210 a month, regardless of household composition. Income criterion: total income up to €7,000 for a one-person household, increased by €3,500 per member and up to €21,000 a year. Property criteria also apply (real estate, bank deposits). A valid electronic lease is required at the time of application. The application is submitted with TAXISnet credentials at epidomastegasis.gr.
