The Municipality of Agios Nikolaos pays 50% of the KTEL Heraklion-Lasithi unlimited travel card for students travelling to the Hellenic Mediterranean University (Lakonia), on request. The contract runs 9 months from December 2025 (academic year 2025-26).

What it is
The Municipality of Agios Nikolaos decided (council decision 233/2025) to pay 50% of the travel cards of students commuting to the Hellenic Mediterranean University (campus at Lakonia), on request. It was requested by the university's Department of Management Science and Technology and covers the KTEL Heraklion-Lasithi unlimited card.
The contract was awarded on 15/12/2025; the student-card subsidy runs 9 months from signature, i.e. the 2025–2026 academic year. The Municipality planned for about 90 cards a month; any cards above that are paid by KTEL.
A continuation for 2026–2027 has not been announced. Ask the Municipality or KTEL before buying a card.
