What it is

Law 4957/2022 (article 209) requires every higher-education institution to have an Equal Access Unit, so that students with disabilities and students with special educational needs can take full and equal part in academic life. The services are free and no minimum disability percentage is set. As the institutions describe them, they include: accessible textbooks, course material and interpreting; alternative exam arrangements, according to your needs; assistive IT (e.g. e-books, screen-reading software); a transport-and-escort service for physical access to the university; psycho-emotional support and guidance; identifying and supporting special educational needs. Examples: Democritus University of Thrace provides free transport from home to the university for students with mobility and other problems, for undergraduate and postgraduate students; the Hellenic Mediterranean University records needs with a dedicated form and has a procedure for special exam arrangements; the University of the Aegean's Unit (Mytilene, Chios, Samos, Lemnos, Syros, Rhodes) is funded for 2024-2029 by the «South Aegean» 2021-2027 Programme. To get support, contact the Equal Access Unit (or Student Welfare office) of your institution.
