Firewood for Household Needs of Residents of Mountain and Forest Villages (free or at a symbolic price)
Residents of mountain and forest communities can get firewood to heat their home, free of charge or at a reduced price, under the yearly forest-police order of the local Forest Office. Quantity and terms are set locally; ask the Forest Office, or the municipality for municipal forests.
In kind: a set quantity of firewood per household, free of charge or at a price set by each forest service; quantity and price differ by area.

What it is
Every year the Forest Directorates and Forest Offices issue, per local or municipal community, a forest-police order that covers the household firewood needs of its residents. Permanent residents receive a set quantity of firewood for their home, free of charge or at a price set by the forest service. Firewood is also supplied by the Forest Work Cooperatives (DASE, ΔΑΣΕ), free or at a symbolic price, as the Ministry of Environment and Energy points out. For municipal forests the municipal council decides.
Quantity, price, felling period and distribution differ by area and year. Examples from the 2026 cycle: orders for the communities of Pigaditsa and Kosmati (Grevena Forest Directorate, September 2026), Trigoniko in the Municipality of Servia (Kozani Forest Office, September 2026) and Marina (March 2026). The forest service may also sell seized forest products to residents for household needs at a price it sets (art. 168 of Legislative Decree 86/1969).
This is not the heating allowance: it is an in-kind benefit with no income test that depends on where you live.
