What it is
You are insured with EOPYY (National Organisation for the Provision of Health Services) · You have thalassaemia (Mediterranean anaemia), sickle-cell disease or another haemoglobinopathy and have blood transfusions, exchange transfusions or phlebotomies. EOPYY pays a monthly allowance for travel to these treatments (EKPY (Single Regulation of Health Benefits) art. 47 B, Government Gazette (FEK) B 2106/02.05.2025): Athens, Piraeus €42 a month; Thessaloniki €40; Heraklion, Patras €24; other urban centres €22; outside urban centres and within your home prefecture €110; outside urban centres and outside your home prefecture €165. You need a medical opinion from the director or scientific head of the unit confirming the condition and the transfusions. This is separate from the general allowance of €0.20/km per journey that the same article provides for every insured person who travels outside their regional unit for treatment not available locally. Application period: no fixed deadline.
