What it is

Insured people who travel outside their prefecture of residence (or within the prefecture over 100 km, or off the island over 15 nautical miles) for medical treatment not available locally; €0.20/km (private car/taxi) or the cost of public transport tickets, for the patient + 1 companion (mandatory for minors ≤18); an air ticket in emergencies after approval by the AYS (Supreme Health Council). Frequency/limit: per journey. Patients with kidney disease and patients with thalassaemia/sickle cell disease receive their own special monthly compensation (regular, independent of the journey) — see separately "Travel Expense Compensation for Kidney Patients (EOPYY)" and "Travel Expense Compensation for Thalassaemia Patients (EOPYY)".
