What it is

The Unified Journalists' Organisation for Auxiliary Insurance and Health Care (ΕΔΟΕΑΠ) insures members of the press unions ΕΣΗΕΑ, ΕΣΗΕΜ-Θ, ΕΠΗΕΑ and ΕΠΗΕΘ, employees of media and entertainment companies in Greece (when the employer has at least 10 staff), of news agencies, press offices and the General Secretariat for Information, the staff of the press unions and its own pensioners. Their family members are indirect members.

Cash benefits, as posted on the ΕΔΟΕΑΠ website: - Birth allowance: €1,500 per child for a natural birth (in a public hospital €1,500 minus the hospital cost) and €750 per child for a caesarean, with hospital costs covered. Insured working mothers also get a post-natal allowance with an employer certificate. - Large-family allowance: with at least 3 children who are protected members of ΕΔΟΕΑΠ, family taxable income up to €50,000 (plus €5,000 for each child beyond 3) and no ΟΠΕΚΑ child benefit: €100 a month for the 3rd child, €150 for the 4th and €50 for each further child. The tax assessment is sent every year by 20 June. - Single-parent allowance: for orphaned children or children of unmarried direct members, until 31/12 of the year they turn 18, with family income up to €15,000 (1 child) or €20,000 (2 or more): €100 a month per child (€200 if you rent), minus the ΟΠΕΚΑ child benefit, paid every six months. - Special schools and day centres for children: full cover of a private special school up to €1,200 a month (above that with a 30% co-payment) and €40 a day in a day centre (€50 for more than 8 hours), with a psychiatrist's opinion, a ΚΕΠΑ decision and Board approval. - Funeral grant: €1,500 for direct members and €1,100 for indirect members, paid to whoever the funeral home's receipt is issued to. - Multiple sclerosis allowance: €300 a month, regardless of income, with a disability of at least 67% (the conditions differ if you work) and no out-of-institution allowance from e-ΕΦΚΑ. - Allowance for kidney patients on haemodialysis: €400 for direct and €250 for indirect members, if you get no similar allowance from another body. - Transport allowance for thalassaemia: €250 a month for patients who receive transfusions.

ΕΔΟΕΑΠ also pays a children's camp allowance (applications for 2026 ran 29 May – 19 June 2026). A cash sickness or accident allowance and a nursery allowance are not among its benefits; sickness and accident allowances for employees are paid by e-ΕΦΚΑ.
