A yearly call for 10 grants of €5,000 (+€1,000 for each additional child) for unmarried, divorced or widowed mothers registered in the Municipality of Ioannina, with very low income (up to €4,000) and little property. Apply to the Municipality within 45 days of the call being published.

What it is
The Municipality of Ioannina manages the «Aglaia Charalambous» bequest and each year announces child-rearing grants for mothers raising children on their own. On 25/08/2026 the Municipal Committee approved the terms of the call for the year 2024: ten (10) grants of €5,000.00 each.
Who can apply: - unmarried, divorced or widowed mothers aged 18 or over; - with Greek citizenship and origin from Epirus; - registered citizens of the Municipality of Ioannina (citizens of other municipalities of the Ioannina prefecture only if money is left over); - with a child under 18, or up to 22 if studying at a university, TEI, Church Academy or School of Fine Arts, up to 23 at a Polytechnic or School of Pharmacy, up to 24 at a School of Medicine (in Greece); mothers of children at military or police schools, the Merchant Navy Academy or the Fire Service are excluded; - with net yearly income (their own and their dependants', including every allowance) of up to €4,000 in the previous year; - with no real estate or real estate worth up to €10,000 in total (between €10,000 and €20,000 the grant is halved); - who receive no other allowance for the same purpose.
The grant rises by €1,000 for each child after the first. If there are more eligible applications than grants, citizens of Ioannina come first and the order is set by points (income, property, disability of the mother or the child of at least 50%); ties are decided by a public draw.
The application and documents go to the Protocol Office of the Municipality of Ioannina (Krystalli 3, Ioannina) within 45 calendar days from the day after the call is published on the Municipality's website and in the press. The form is available from the Bequests Department (Averof 3, tel. 26513 61373) and on the Municipality's website.
