BOEA of the Armed Forces Mutual Funds (MTS, MTN, MTA) — family and professional independence grant for the children of members and pensioners
One-off grant for the insured children of serving members and retired pensioners of the Army (MTS), Navy (MTN) or Air Force (MTA) mutual funds. It is paid when the child turns 25, or earlier in special cases such as marriage or serious health reasons.
One-off. MTS: 60 monthly pensions of the parent's rank × (child's years of cover / 25). MTN, MTA: amount set by each fund's rules.

Apply to the parent's mutual fund
MTS: to the Benefits Directorate, in person or by post, with a certified signature. MTN and MTA: to that fund, as its MITOS page describes.

Decision and payment
The fund works out the amount and pays it in one go. At the MTS this takes about 4 months and costs nothing.

What it is
The three Armed Forces mutual funds (Army — MTS, Navy — MTN, Air Force — MTA) pay the Family and Professional Independence Grant (BOEA) to the insured children of their serving members and retired pensioners.
When: when the child turns 25, at which point the child's cover ends automatically. Earlier on marriage or civil partnership, or for serious health reasons or incapacity. The MTN can also pay it after the child turns 18, with the parent's consent or when the child stops succeeding to the pension.
How much: at the MTS, 60 full monthly pensions of the parent's rank, times as many 25ths as the child's years of cover. At the MTN and MTA the amount is set by each fund's rules.
Time limit: at the MTS the right lapses 5 years after the child turns 30.
