You are on a low income, unemployed, living alone or homeless. The Social Service decides this from the tax assessment and E9 property statement of every household member, or from an approved KEA (Guaranteed Minimum Income) application.

What it is

The Municipality of Nea Smyrni runs one combined basic-goods service with two parts.

Social Meals: since 2013 the Directorate of Social Care and Solidarity, together with the non-profit "Xenios Zeus", has given a free meal every day, Monday to Friday: one portion per person, including the dependent members of the family. On public holidays double portions are given. Meals are handed out at the municipality's KAPI centres, and delivered at home by volunteers for people who cannot get about for health reasons.

Social Grocery: open since 2013, it gives a free ready-made package of packaged long-life food and other basic goods. The quantity depends on the number of family members. It is at Artakis 8 and Ethnikis Paliggenesias (9:00 to 13:00, tel. 213 2025 947).

It is for people on low incomes, unemployed people, people living alone and homeless people. The municipality's Social Service decides who joins, based on the application and supporting documents. The service is funded by the "Attica 2021-2027" programme (EU structural funds); the grocery goods are paid mainly from the municipal budget and from donations.
