What it is
As part of the National Action against Childhood Obesity (Ministry of Health with UNICEF), a free online nutrition counselling service with a dietitian-nutritionist runs at the European Centre for the Fight against Obesity of Harokopio University. The dietitian agrees a plan with the family, carried out in 12 online sessions over 6 months (one every two weeks): advice on nutrition, physical activity and sleep, a personal nutrition plan and information material. A multidisciplinary team (psychologists, paediatricians, paediatric endocrinologists, physical-education teachers) supports the dietitians.
The Action is for children aged 0–17 and their families. A child with overweight or obesity anywhere in Greece joins the service after a referral by the paediatrician, together with one parent or guardian. The paediatrician fills in the referral form at a meeting with the child and the parent; the parent signs the consent form and sends it to the service. The service is funded by the Recovery Fund («Greece 2.0», NextGenerationEU).
