Requires an initial certificate from a specialist doctor at an ESY/university/armed-forces hospital or the Child Health Institute, or a contracted private hospital, with supporting diagnostic tests. 80%+ disability removes the co-payment (does not change eligibility).

What it is

Insured people with coeliac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, short bowel syndrome, cystic fibrosis, inborn metabolic diseases, cow's milk allergy (infants/children), premature/low-birth-weight newborns, minors with a transplant or kidney/liver failure. Gluten-free products (coeliac disease): up to €100/month for adults and €150/month for children, bought on the open market with a receipt; other special products at a unit price set by the Board of Directors of EOPYY (National Organisation for the Provision of Health Services); co-payment 10% in general, 0% for specific metabolic diseases/coeliac-related exceptions/people with disabilities 80%+/infants. Frequency/limit: the medical opinion is valid for 1 year (coeliac disease), 6 months (metabolic diseases/cystic fibrosis), 2 months (other conditions); monthly electronic referral, to be filled within 10 days
