How to find which benefits you qualify for: steps, documents and categories 2026

Step by step: how to check which benefits you may qualify for, what to prepare before applying, the benefit categories and why applications get rejected.

Step 1: See which benefits apply to you

You do not need to read every benefit’s terms one by one. In the free myepidoma check you answer simple questions (income, family situation, work), with no AFM and no AMKA, and see which benefits you may qualify for, which not, and why. The result is indicative: the competent authority always makes the final decision.

Start with the free check: which benefits you may qualify for

Step 2: Read each benefit’s page

Every benefit has its own page with the amount, the criteria, the legal basis and a link to the official source, together with the date it was last checked. Check the application period there too: some benefits accept applications all year, others only in set rounds.

Step 3: Prepare documents and codes

Almost all applications are submitted online via gov.gr with TaxisNet codes. Prepare: active TaxisNet codes, AFM and AMKA (yours and your household members’), an IBAN in your name, email and mobile. Make sure your tax return (E1) is filed: many benefits pull income data automatically from AADE.

Step 4: Apply on the official platform

You always apply on the competent authority’s platform (for example OPEKA, DYPA, e-EFKA, AADE or gov.gr), never on myepidoma. Each benefit’s page shows where to apply. Keep the reference number and follow the application on the same platform.

Benefit categories

State benefits fall into core categories: Housing, Family, Work and Unemployment, Energy, Social support, Disability, Education, Health and Pensions. Each category has a different competent authority (OPEKA, DYPA, e-EFKA, AADE and others) and a different application platform.

The most searched benefits

These are the benefits people in Greece search for most on Google. Each link leads to the benefit’s page, with the amount, the criteria and how to apply, from the official source.

Benefits by body and for families

If you know which body pays a benefit, see all of its benefits: OPEKA pays the welfare benefits, DYPA the unemployment benefits and employment programmes, e-EFKA the benefits of the people it insures, and AADE the heating allowance and tax relief. Single-parent families and families with three or more children have their own pages with the benefits that concern them.

Why applications get rejected

The most common rejection causes are not the criteria but data mismatches: an outdated TaxisNet address, an undeclared or expired electronic lease, a wrong IBAN, a household member’s AMKA that does not match the registry, or an unfiled tax return. Update your details first, then apply.
